As the sun sets in the past, a new sun, the new Utah GM, brings a new generation to the Utah Jazz.
Within the first few days of being hired, he waited for nothing, trading away big-man shooter Mehmet Okur to the New Jersey Nets for Brad Miller and Sacramento's 2nd rounder of 2007. The deal was done after NJ GM contacted Utah GM about a possible deal that would send Jason Kidd/Ron Artest/Brad Miller to Utah for Deron Williams/Andrei Kirilenko/Mehmet Okur. That deal was shorten to the acutal trade. The move brought a more defensive minded center that may not shoot 3's, but is a great passer that can also hit jumpers.
After an arguement at practice between Utah guard Ronnie Brewer and coach Jerry Sloan, the Utah GM decided it was best to trade away Brewer to the Atlanta Hawks for the Hawks' 1st. The trade talks between the two teams did not start out that way as Utah was trying to trade for Josh Smith with a package that included Paul Millsap, Brewer, and a future pick, but after the Jazz lost out on Smith, he came back to Atlanta to see if they were still interested in Brewer, and when Utah found out they were, a deal was worked out.
With the team looking like it needed more offense, Utah's GM turned to Seattle to solve that problem, sending defensive-minded SF/PF AK-47 for a great 3-point shooting combo guard Jason Terry. The Jazz also got 6'9" SF Marvin Williams in the deal to fill the SF starting spot for the team. A Minnesota 2008 1st rounder was also rumored to be involved.
One of the smaller trades for the Jazz this season sent the rights to Utah's 2007 2nd rounder(43rd overall) to the Los Angeles Lakers for a future(2008) 2nd rounder.
After New Jersey contacted the Jazz about needing more depth at PG, a deal was agreed on to sent talented combo guard Dee Brown to the Nets for Wayne Simien, the rights to New Orleans 2007 2nd round pick(59th overall), and a 2008 Sacramento 2nd.
The final trade made in the off-season for Utah was mainly for depth. The trade sent the Lakers 2008 2nd to Seattle for a highly prospected guard J.J. Redick who has had his mis-fortunes in the big leagues.
