The Houston Rockets organization would like to extend an offer to J.R. Smith.
Offering: $35,000,000 over 5 years
Year 1: $6,000,000 Year 2: $6,500,000 Year 3: $7,000,000 Player Option Year 4: $7,500,000 Year 5: $8,000,000
08/09 Salary : $66,067,533 09/10 Salary : $49,500,000 10/11 Salary : $34,500,000 *salaries include contract
We would love to have JR to become part of this star studded young team. He will be the starting SG for this team, period. We are very impressed with his ability to score as well as distribute the ball from the SG position. JR would be a perfect player to join Iggy, Jameer, and Big Al. With JR on this team, he will gain the recognition that he deserves as a quality starter and will have a chance to grow and gel with these other young players. This team is one that will suprise some people, and we would love for JR to be a part of this. We feel that this team would play JR's style of ball and that he would flourish in this system. We look forward to talking with you JR.

Just at a glace, my client really likes the opportunities that your team can give him, but would want a player option in Year 3.
Obviously we want to wait it out and see what else we get offered, but your team is the exact kind of situation that we wanted to leave Minnesota or Utah for.

We feel that this is a great situation for JR and the perfet player for our system. He is young, talented, energetic, and will fit in well with this team.
Per your request, we added a player option to the third year. We look forward to more negotations and hopefully JR in a Rockets jersey

The Jazz would like to again offer for J.R.
Offering: $30,000,000 over 5 years
Year 1: $4,000,000 Year 2: $5,000,000 Year 3: $6,000,000 Year 4: $7,000,000 Year 5: $8,000,000
08/09: $64,928,509 09/10: $48,466,124 10/11: $32,686,100 11/12: $15,000,000 12/13: $8,000,000
We wanted J.R. before, and want to continue to pursue him. He would most likely be our starting SG, playing next to Hinrich and LeBron. With K-Mart and Amare in the frontcourt. He gives us a 3-pt shooting threat, and helps spread the floor to help out the other guys. We feel that adding a player like him to our starting 5 will help us go further in the playoffs then we did last year. With a lineup of Amare-Martin-LeBron-Smith-Hinrich that average an age of just under 26, our team would compete starting this year, and for years to come.

The Houston Rockets have modified their offer to match the $30,000,000 that the Jazz has offered.
We still feel that JR fits this system perfectly and will love playing beside Jameer, Iggy, and Big Al. We feel that JR will be an integral part of this team and will get his touches as the starting SG of the Rockets. This position is waiting for him; and has his name on it. We look forward to having him in a Rockets jersey!

Once again we will match Utah's offer for 5 years 35,000,000 to show that we are also fully commited to brining JR to Houston. We still feel like he will be an integral part of this offense, and that he will be recognized as the solid SG that he is. We know he will get his touches in this offense, and he will fit this scheme perfectly. We look forward to hearing from JR

My client and I have come to a decision. We have decided to sign to the [blue]Utah Jazz[/blue] for the 5 year, $35 mil recent contract. We would first like to thank Houston for the interest that the organization showed in JR. But, the opportunities presented in Utah were just too great to pass up.
We were skeptical of coming to Utah before because of the touches my client might get. We realize that he will probably be the fifth option in the offense, but an opportunity to play next to Lebron James was too great to pass up. We hope that JR can become a three point assassin, and he will definately be able to play in this offense and spread the floor.
As for Houston, we liked the opportunities that you presented up with, but a chance to play next to Lebron James is hard to pass up. We wish you the best of luck in the future with your franchise!
