The Orlando Magic have come to terms with the Phoenix Suns on a sign and trade deal for Jameer Nelson, DeShawn Stevenson and Al Jefferson. DeShawn will be the second of the three to be signed. We would like to point out that DeShawn is a 73 rated SG and our offer coincides with a similar offer just accepted by Daniel Gibson. DeShawn has shown that he can be a real threat off the bench and will be a key asset of the rebuilding project in Phoenix
Our offer is as follows:
Year 1: $3,500,000 Year 2: $4,000,000 Year 3: $4,500,000 Year 4: $5,000,000 (Player Option)
2008-09: 61,631,104 (After extension w/ Orlando's cap space) However, we would like to point out that the cap space will be Phoenix, not our own.
This is a four year, 17 million dollar contract that we see as fitting for a talent like DeShawn. He will have the player option in his final year as a "just-in-case" scenario but we fully expect him to be very happy playing for the Suns this season.

Before we start negociating, could you include your total salary with Stevenson as well?

Oh, alright. He accepts then. He feels that offer is spoiling him quite a bit. He feels his best play will be off the bench and will be looking forward to coming to Phoenix.

What happens here then? I'd think the deal would have to be changed or something, since it's not a S+T anymore.

Unfortunately, our cap space situation has been sunk since our first deal and we whole-heartedly understand the offer being void. However, DeShawn was a key member of our Eastern Conference Champion team and we would love to bring him back. The following offer is the best we can do as far as up-front money costs, but we believe that the lengthy contract, maximum yearly increase and a guaranteed 6th man slot on such a star-studded team might entice him to come back.
Year 1: 1,500,000 Year 2: 2,000,000 Year 3: 2,500,000 Year 4: 3,500,000 (Player Option) Year 5: 4,500,000 (Player Option)
5 year, 14 million dollar offer.

I don't think you have enough cap space in the first year to offer that.
