Sign and Trade Rumors
Rocket Man
Extension period begins in the NBA Legends League tomorrow at 7 PM. At this time, GM's and player agents have to make some very cruicial decisions. "Do I want to resign with my current team", "How much money can my client make", and "Does this system fit my client's style of play" are questions that will be asked over this period of time. Many guys will sign there extensions, some will go to free agency, and still others will go through the sign and trade process.
In looking around the league there are many high profile players which will need to be resigned. Some of these guys include: Dwight Howard, Josh Smith, Andre Igoudala, Monta Ellis, Al Jefferson, Jameer Nelson, and Jose Calderon.
Dwight Howard is by far the main man that needs to be extended this offseason. There definitley a mad scramble for salary in the beginning of this offseason to try and clear room for Dwight Howard. Things changed massively though when Detroit gained enough cap to resign arguably the best center in the game. When asked if D12 could be used in a sign and trade, Detroit gm made himself perfectly clear : "There is no way that Dwight will leave this organization. He is the face of this franchise and will be a Piston for life." He even added in a shot to all the gms that were scrambling for cap space at the beginning of the offseason by simply saying "Ha, I told you so."
Superman will continue to fly high in Detroit.
Next we come to superstars Monta Ellis and Andre Igoudala. These two stars have played with the Spurs last year, but the new gm plans to build a team using his system and to his liking. These were the Spurs #1 and #3 scorers this year averaging 18.2 ppg and 14.4 ppg respectively, but these two young stars are rumored to be headed out of San Antonio. Rumor broke earlier this month that Iggy could be headed to Houston in a sign and trade for young stars Andrew Bogut, Delonte West, and Luis Scola along with a draft pick package including the very valuable Spurs 2009 first rounder. If the Houston Rockets are able to resign Josh Smith and then complete this sign and trade for Iggy, watch out... This could be a team to watch in a couple years with these two young athletic studs.
Iggy loves the idea of possibly playing beside Josh Smith
Monta Ellis on the other hand has been rumored to head to New York where he would play along side Dwyane Wade. When asked about this opportunity to play along side Wade, Monta replied "Come on bro, its Wade...Its a dream come true. Plus who wouldnt want to play in the Garden.?" Monta looks to fetch Jeff Green, draft picks, Jordan Farmar, and two rookies drafted in this years draft. Both of these sign and trades make sense for all parties involved as both NYK and the Rockets have a tandem of stars and the Spurs get a plethora of young talent along with multiple draft picks (including his own which will be lottery) to build around.
Monta already sports a Yankees hat, hoping to go to New York
The next couple young guys that could be traded is where it gets a little hazy for the Rocket Man. Jose Calderon has been rumored to go multiple places including to Orlando for Big Al Jefferson. This deal seems to make sense for both parties, as Orlando needs a solid point guard and Boston is looking to trade Calderon for a Power Forward or Center. However when contacted about this, both GMs just gave your boy, the Rocket Man, the stink eye. This made him think that there once was a deal in place, but that the deal had falled through. When he prodded a little further into this investigation, Rocket Man only got this out of the Orlando GM's mouth, "I have been talking to New Orleans.". Thats it. Nothing else. Could there be a deal done between the respective eastern and western conference powerhouses. Could we see Paul in a Magic uniform and Big Al and Jameer in Hornets jerseys? I guess we will have to wait and find out, but all of this is very intriguing stuff. Teams are made and broken during the offseason, and many moves are about to be made. The draft is over, and everyone is anxiously awaiting the extension period.
Calderon and Jefferson are among many guys who are waiting to see where they will play next year. Will they switch teams? Who Knows.....
This will unfold in the coming days, and I, The Rocket Man, am very anxious to see how it turns out!
