Trade Analysis: IND/NYK
IND trades:
93| Dwayne Wade $14,140,581| $15,779912| $17,149,243
65| Jeff Foster $6,175,000
Total outgoing salary:$20,315,581
Total incoming salary:$8,269,300
NY trades:
78| Andrew Bynum $2,769,300
75| Raja Bell $5,000,000| $5,250,000
65| Aaron Gray $500,000
draft rights to: 74 | Russell Westbrook
draft rights to: 72 | Eric Gordon
Total outgoing salary: $8,269,300
Total incoming salary:$20,315,581
The Winner: When you get a top 5 player in the game, its kind of hard not to win a trade, and this case is no different. D-Wade should make the Knicks, at the very least, competitive again. He joins a very young starting lineup which consists of Farmar, Jeff Green, & Al Thornton. The Knicks are 1 trade or free agent signing away from being a playoff contender. With about 20 million in cap space, a stud free agent might be heading to the Big Apple. Dare I say, Dwight Howard? We shall see.
The Loser: Unfortunately, in each trade there must be a loser. In this case, its Indiana. There was no question that Indiana needed cap space as his roster consisted of a ton of bad contracts, but in my opinion, he could have gotten, or at least should have gotten, a mid-80s young stud with low salary. One reason the GM made this trade was to insure the re-signing of Devin Harris. The problem with that is, nothing is guaranteed in the resigning period and Devin might want to jump ship due to no star power left on the roster. In the end Indiana will benefit if Bynum, Eric Gordon, and Russell Westbrook pan out. In many cases young players with "potential" don't work out. For Indiana's sake, hopefully Bynum becomes an all-star, Eric Gordon becomes Ben Gordon, and Westbrook becomes the do it all utility player he is supposed to be.
