The Portland Trail Blazers have been relatively quiet this off-season, often exploring trades which break through at the last minute because of the Blazers GM's in-ability to part ways with his young core of LaMarcus Aldridge, Brandon Roy, Travis Outlaw, Thaddeus Young and Martell Webster.
We quickly caught up with the Blazers GM as he just came out of a call with the Indiana Pacers GM about a potential trade which sends Troy Murphy and Rajon Rondo to the Blazers, this is what he had to say:
"We just came off the phone with the Pacers GM and he has shown that he doesn't want to part ways with Rajon Rondo, which is quite understandable as he is a quality PG out there, but what can you do, we just have to keep looking for a point guard who fit our young core."
We also asked the Blazers GM about the future of DeSagana Diop at the Blazers and he replied
"He had an outstanding second half of the season with us after coming with the Rashard Lewis trade and we are 100% certain to go for a contract extension with him because we see him as a key part in our plans of making the playoff's"
The Pacers GM just put a trade through which may potentially go through which will give him room to re-sign Devin Harris, and the Blazers GM was quickly angered by that because he said Devin Harris was the #1 man on his radar this off-season and was going to sign him at any cost, where will the Blazers go now?
They might have to part ways with one of their core guys to be able to bring a PG in to help run their young offence this season.
The final words by the Blazers GM was:
If we have to part ways with one of our core guys after the Free Agent period is over in-order to get a Point guard, i guess we will have to do so.
