I have been having a lot of issues with my dribbling problems, so I tend to palm the ball a lot.
so if you guys have played some kind of team basketball, can you answer this question for me.
Which way of dribbling is easier,
using your fingertips
or palming the basketball instead.

If you're going to be a guard, definately fingertips. I have a smaller hand therefore it's hard to palm. But on the catch, sure, you could palm it. See: McGrady, it's kind of a way to keep the ball away from the defender, but AI, has killer crossovers, so he doesn't palm it. A combo of both would be good though.

I love dribbling with my palm. I seem to have a lot more control when i use my palm. Easier for me to cross the shi** outta somebody. ;D

Yeah, for sick crossovers palm is better but I've never really tried using my fingertips. I'm going to have to try it.

you are actually suposed to dribble with your finger pads. that means the three pads on your fingers that alternate around your knuckles, and the pads right at the top of your palm.
btw i am a wing guard in high school and do play some point guard in summer ball.

thanks for the input guys, I appreciate it, I think I'll try a little of each to see which one works.
I have B-Ball tryouts today for my HS team, and I hope I can make JV or Varsity.
Wish me luck man.

I do both, when I'm fast-breaking up court I use my fingertips, but as a big I usually use my fingers and part of my palm for greater control. LA good luck on trying out! I'm on my HS team and it's hard work so be prepared to work hard every day if you want to make it.

I don't dribble. Im to busy catching alley-oops. hahahaha. i wish. Its a combo of both finger tips, pads and palm. All depends where on the court and what you are about to do.
Open court: pads-finger tips
Crossing over or spin move: pads to palm
Post players: palm to pads. Finger tips aren't advisable for post-power moves. Also plenty of defenders poking at the ball from all angles.
Shooters: pad to finger tips. Never use the palm. Slows your release and affects your shot.
Just a few examples...im sure you guys get the point.
But god damn, Who is really thinking out there? Im a casual player that does whats comfortable or natural. Truthfully, nothing about my offensive game is natural. Defense is another story. I was the worst athlete as a child. Practice did me a lot of good. Driveway hoop and a great coach improved my shoot dramatically. In Junior high(yes i went to junior high), to you guys in high shool its now called middle school. Captains chose me to block the crap out of people and rebound.
