They are sitting on top of the Atlantic division right now and are one of the hottest teams in the league right now. This eastern conference team is now stirring up discussions whether they can reach the big stage and win it all.
The team that I'm talking about is the Philadelphia 76ers
Led by future Hall-of-Famer Kevin Garnett, this team looked like a favorite to win the east before the start of the season but like any other team who has made major roster changes to the team will experience a slow start. But this start was only about to get worse with Mike Bibby, the 76ers starting PG got injured and was announced to be injured for more than a month which spelled disaster for the 76ers GM who plans to get to the playoffs this year. So the GM decided to add new faces to the team and like before the team will struggle while getting to know each other especially for KG. The reigning MVP last season found it very hard to get along with other players because of the many roster changes and it shows in his performance. When the 76ers went on a win streak, the GM realized that he didn't have to make a lot of roster changes to make the team good, he just had to give them sometime to let them gel as a team. KG is now putting up MVP type numbers again and his team is looking like a team that can go on a great run in the playoffs.
but before we can say that they can be a title contender we have to consider first the make up of the team:
C: Dikembe Mutombo
- a defensive minded player with lots of experience which can definitely help a contending team but there is one concern about him which is stamina. It will be hard for him to guard the younger and quicker players when the playoffs come so the 76ers should think about starting their younger players
PF: Kevin Garnett
- He can do it all on the court, Score points,Rebound,Defend,Block Shots, dish out assists and has the passion for the game truly a future Hall-of-Famer.
SF: Luke Walton
- has proven to be a solid contributor either off the bench or being a starter. He can help any contending team trying to go for a title. He can shoot, rebound and also pass to other teammates. a good all around player.
SG: Mike Miller
- Someone who is really an underrated player in the league, he has shown to be a good leader for a team and can step up his game when needed and has been really helpful to Garnett by taking some of the offensive load and has been one of the great clutch players during the season.
PG: Mike Bibby
- An offensive minded point guard, Bibby has the responsibility in leading this team in scoring points. But this time he doesnt have to shoot to score points he needs to start making plays for his teammates and setting them up. With KG and Miller playing alongside him that shouldnt be a problem.
Bench:
- the 76ers bench mostly consists of veteran players who some have already seen success with their former teams but experience isnt the only thing they need for a good bench they must have the stamina to be able to keep up with the quicker teams in the league and usually older players dont have the stamina anymore to play with younger players. that is why youth is also important to any team's bench
Overall, the 76ers has a good team but must make moves that will help them get younger and also prepare them for the future to be able to continue contending for a title in the years to come.
