No one really using this thread, lol.
Some huge news today if you are a Blackhawks fan. They re-signed their 3 best players to long term deals. Duncan Keith, Patrick Kane, and Johnathon Toews will all be Blackhawks for a long time. Good time to be a Hawks fan!

Ya, Toews and Kane locked up for a good 5-6 years and Keith will be a Hawk for his entire career with that 13 year deal! Hawks are so close to the cap now though, I can see them making a move soon or at the trade deadline.

You guys have like 60M locked up to around 8 guy, ouch. Plus the cap is going down next season too. Looks like Barker and Sopel are definitely gonna be moved. ESPN reported a Barker for Picard, Shannon, 2nd rounder deal. I think that's a good trade for both teams.

No Crosby for the Pens tonight and the Hawks took advantage. Plus, coach Q played the matchups beautifully. Keith and Seabrook were on the ice everytime Malkin came on. Versteeg with the OT winner. Niemi with fantastic goaltending.

ESPN reported a Barker for Picard, Shannon, 2nd rounder deal. I think that's a good trade for both teams. There will be no major trade during the season. They have a legit shot at the cup with the team they have this year. Worry about shedding salary in the off-season. Honestly of the 60 million, only Campbell's contract is a problem. Hossa, Toews, Kane, Keith, and Huet are the 5 best players on the team, so them being tied up long term is fantastic for the franchise. You can find role players to fill around great players all the time. Im not worried about the cap situation. Barker is probably gone and i'm fine with that. He has nothing more than a decent point shot on the PP. Hes not worth 2.5 million. Plus, hes a bad turnover waiting to happen.

The Toronto Maple Leafs shook up their roster with a pair of big moves on Sunday, the biggest coming in a trade for star defenseman Dion Phaneuf from the Calgary Flames.
[+] EnlargePhaneuf John E. Sokolowski/US PresswireDion Phaneuf (left) and Jamal Mayers will be trading jerseys, with Phaneuf headed for Toronto and Mayers bound for Calgary.
The Leafs were also on the verge of acquiring veteran goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere from the Anaheim Ducks, pending his waiving a no-trade clause, a source told ESPN.com.
Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke announced the Leafs had acquired Phaneuf, right wing Fredrik Sjostrom and defenseman Keith Aulie in exchange for defenseman Ian White, center Matt Stajan, left wing Niklas Hagman and right wing Jamal Mayers.
"Of course the centerpiece of the deal is Dion Phaneuf," Burke said at a news conference. "A couple of words come to mind with him, like 'elite player.' He's a warrior, he's got a cannon for a shot and he plays the game hard. I want players that play the game hard. He makes our power play better, he's a big hitter and a quality human being. We're thrilled to have him."
Phaneuf had 10 goals, 12 assists and 49 penalty minutes as of Sunday. In 378 career games over five seasons he has 75 goals, 153 assists and 522 penalty minutes, all with the Flames.
The Leafs gave up two of their top scorers in Stajan (16 goals, 25 assists) and Hagman (20 goals, 13 assists) to obtain Phaneuf.
A source told ESPN.com that as of 11:30 a.m. ET, Giguere had not yet waived his no-trade clause but a source close to the situation expected he would.
Goalie Vesa Toskala would be headed from Toronto to Anaheim as part of the deal and there may be other parts to this trade as well, the source said.
Burke said another trade might be announced "within 30 minutes," without specifying if he meant the Giguere trade.
Burke said the Flames didn't want to deal Phaneuf earlier in the season.
"We asked about him earlier in the year and the answer was no," Burke said.
But the Flames had a nine-game winless streak and Flames GM Darryl Sutter was clearly feeling the pressure to make a big move.
Phaneuf has four more years left on his deal after this season at at an average of $6.5 million per year.
White will be a restricted free agent July 1, while Stajan will be an unrestricted free agent.
Giguere has one year left on his deal next season at $7 million while Toskala, earning $4 million this year, will be an unrestricted free agent July 1.
The Leafs, who are last in the Eastern Conference and 29th overall in the NHL, lost 5-3 to Vancouver on Saturday night, blowing a 3-0 lead.

Wish we could have gotten something better for Dion, even though he hasn't really been playing his best this season. I've heard that Ian White has been having a good year, and the Flames desperately need forwards to help them score.

The Thrashers did it to get Patrice "Captain Dirty" Cormier!!!!!

Cormier is like Downey.. he became a headache and had to be moved. Oduya is solid but not outstanding. Bergfors look good, not great and it will be a late first round pick. NJ just stole Kovalchuk in my opinion. He's an elite player, there's only a handful of those. They could totally re-sign him if he has an impact and if not well that's the risk they took and risks are worth taking sometimes. I like the trade, Kovalchuk will be very, very interesting to watch now that he's on a top team. This is absolutely great for the NHL, he's in a real hockey market now.. he's playing on the same team as the best goalie of all time, this is just outstanding. I hope they make a good run in the playoffs.. if not well nothing ventured nothing gained, you gotta try.
Waddell should probably be fired after the season, especially since they are probably not making the playoffs. They do have some good young prospects in Kane, Little, Enstrom, Bogosian, and now Bergfors, but aside from that... not much happening in their farm (outside of Cormier). Rebuild, rebuild, rebuild... seems like the Atlanta plan since they began in the NHL.

They are the same group that owns the Hawks, and they are NOTORIOUS FOR BEING A PENNY PINCHING GROUP.

I know im late to the party, but my god did the Devils fleece the Trashers! Its a joke. Yea, they are getting a pick and a nice young player back, but come on! No one going back to the Thrashers will EVER be close to what Kovalchuk was to them. Garbage trade for them. Great trade for the Devils. Parise and Kovalchuk is a scary duo especially when they have the greatest goalie of all time behind them.
Since the Blackhawks didn't get him, im glad he stayed out East. Though, the Hawks were offering a little bit of a better package, at least I thought they were. Rumors were Versteeg/Barker/Pick. IMO, that's a better package than what the Trash received.
