Dana Jacobson: Welcome to Cold Pizza, I'm Dana Jacobson and with me as always is Skip Bailiff. Our special guest today is ESPN NBA insider Stephen A. Smith. How you guys doing today?
Skip: Doing okay, just SHOCKED that Cowboys beat the Giants...HOW COULD THEY!?!?!?
Stephen A: I'm doing alright Dana, Skip is right that was a shocker, but how about the Lakers reacquiring Allen Iverson?
Dana Jacobson: We'll get into the Basketball later, but in first down we will be starting with the Cowboys big win over Giants? People on this panel said the Giants were unbeatable and the Cowboys were done. Now the Cowboys control there own fate to getting a wild card, and the Giants might not even have home field advantage if they lose to Carolina, thoughts guys?
Skip: Personally I am just HORRIFIED at how the Giants are playing, I mean is Eli anywhere near as good as Peyton? Peyton could lose Harrison, Wayne, Clark, Addai, and Gonzalez and at least score ONE touchdown on the Cowboys. I'm not sure about Eli Manning right now, he one of the flukiest QB's ever. Sometimes he plays great and sometimes he plays like crap, just like counterpart for the Cowboys Tony Romo. This guy has some ability and when he brings man he brings it. I thought the season was over after T.O. just BLEW HIS HANDLE after Romo gave the away against the Steelers, maybe T.O. ought get on his ass more because the Cowboys looked like a different football team last night.
Stephen A: You know Skip you come on here and diss my boy T.O. (who is second to Kobe and is fo sho my brotha) but T.O. get's it done. The Giants aren't going to have Plax the rest of the year, he literally shot himself in the foot. They need to get over that, but I don't think the credit is given to the Cowboys D lead by "soft Wade Phillips." After that Rams game when he took over the Cowboys D play calling they have been playing INSANE. I think the Cowboys are poised to make a deep run in the playoffs. You can talk about T.O., Romo, Roy Williams, Marion Barber, or anyone else on Offense but the Defense is getting it done for the Boys. You saw what the Giants did last year against the Patriots, I think the Cowboys MIGHT be that team this year.
Dana Jacobson: Alright guys we'll have to wait and see, now getting into the NBA for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th down. Stephen A. was talking about the LA Lakers traded Jamal Crawford, Drew Gooden, Donyell Marshall, PHX's 1st this year, and the draft rights to Aaron Brooks for Allen Iverson, Eddie House, and Ronny Turiaf. What do you guys think, did the Lakers gamble too much or did they just put themselves back in the thick of things.
Skip: I think this was the right move for Boston, you see what the teams in front of Boston in the East have. Any of them other than Cleveland just have too much talent, and there not even better than Cleveland. The two right below them (Detroit and Washington) have A LOTS of talent, and now you see what the Bobcats just did getting Rudy Gay and Ben Wallace over night, factor in the Hawks and Knicks and man it's going to be tough. EVERYONE is in it other than the Pacers, but that is a story for another day. East is tough, Boston probably won't make it now but they have some nice pieces in the future. I really like Aaron Brooks and his potential so we'll see but I think it was a good move. Even if they keep AI he wasn't gelling well with Durant and Joe Johnson, now there more of a balanced team and maybe they can make a run for the playoffs next year.
As for the Lakers, man there gambling. That team has NOTHING other Kobe, AI, and Odom when he wants to play. Sasha can't play SF like the coach wants, there best to play Sasha, AI, Kobe but they won't. Can AI and Kobe share the ball? Right now the Coach has Kobe at PG, obviously he is going to jack that shit if he is playing the PG. What about the center? They have nothing, Lakers better find some answers or there franchise is in trouble.
Stephen A: Skip you are right sometimes, but I TOTALLY disagree. Boston could have made a run with AI (AI is my brotha from another motha after Kobe and T.O.) ANYWAYS as I was saying AI could have got it done with Durant and Joe Johnson, but that's okay maybe they can do something next year.
What the Lakers got is a title IF Odom will grow some nuts. The Kobe/AI combo is back, now they don't have the Diesel but there more uptempo now. They should trade Sasha for a SF who can play some D and doesn't shoot a lot BUT the answer at Center is Ronny Turiaf. This young man has show a lot of talent, he can run, is a big strong guy, players taller than he is, and will blossom getting rebounds for the Lakers. Mark my words the Lakers will win it all now with the cast they have put around the greatest player in the NBA, Kobe Bryant.
Skip: What about the new Lebron/Amare combo, or the 2 time defending champion Hornets lead by Tim Ducan you can't go against Duncan. Or what about Shaq, Dirk and the Hornets? I think Kobe is gonna have to tell Shaq how is ass tastes for real this time because I will bet you money the Lakers WILL NOT beat the Thunder.
Stephen A: Okay MAYBE I got carried away but man Lebron can't shoot, Amare will tear em but Lebron can't shoot. My money is on the Hornets of course with Timmy, but that big fat piece of shit Shaq can't do shit with out Kobe or Dwade. Does he really think that soft white boy Dirk is going to get it done with him? Shaq is garbage and he knows it, big cry baby.
Dana Jacobson: Wohoo, okay time for 3rd down. Actually no that was great for ratings so my question to you is who is the best team in the league?
Skip: It has to be the Hornets or the Thunder hands down, you NEVER bet against two big men with 4 rings each in Duncan and Shaq. If I had to pick one I would say the Hornets because they have played together a lot longer, but look out the Thunder are tough.
Stephen A: I agree with you Skip, if this was 2001! The time of the big man is over (as brief as it was.) We are back to the MJ type guys, and that leaves a few teams. Dwade is on such a bad team, no. Dallas has a shot with T-mac and Manu, but there posts are too soft. It comes down to me between the Jazz, Lakers, and Orlando.
Skip: *laughs hard* THE LAKERS?!!?!?
Stephen A: Yes the Lakers, Kobe has some help finally. Shaq better hope Kobe's ass is cherry flavored because the Lakers WILL beat Oklahoma City in the playoffs.
Skip: Right now they aren't even in the playoffs?
Stephen A: They will get there, Kobe is real. Anyways as for the Magic I feel like Marion is playing like a man on a mission. Playing like he did with the Suns before Nash, add in there RJ who is starting to come into his own, Terry who you don't leave open, and Yao who is BETTER than Shaq.
Skip: What are you smoking? Are you the one helping Hinirch play so well?
Stephen A: No comment, ANYWAYS as for the Jazz yeah Lebron can't shoot...but JR and Kirk can. Amare down low and Kenyon can still play some D. I like the Jazz over the Magic in the finals.
Dana Jacobson: Alright now in 4th down, Charlotte has made several trades in the past week. Actually almost violated a league rule for trading too many times. At the end of the day the meat of it is Chris Wilcox and David Lee out, while Rudy Gay and Ben Wallace are in. They flipped some scrubs, picks, Korver out as their 6th man and Marquis Daniels in. Last night they had a convincing 113-106 winner over division rival Miami. What do you guys think, is Charlotte going to make the playoffs?
Skip: You know this team is better, but there not that good. Rudy has a lot of potential, but he's not an all star yet. The rest of those guys are unproven, besides Ben Wallace but he is totally done. The trades they made didn't really hurt them for the next few years, in fact the Gay one helped them but no way they get in. The East is too deep with talent, I see it as it now with Detroit passing Boston.
Stephen A: IF Big Ben has anything left and give them a presence inside I think the Bobcats make the playoffs!
Skip: You HAVE to bee kidding me, the guy is averaging 2 points a game?
Stephen A: Big Ben was on the TIMBERWOLVES, no 34 year old is going to try hard playing for them. Anyways let me finish, if he can give them some defense and shot blocking they have a chance. You are right there unproven, but Ford is starting to become the PG the Raptors drafted him to be. If he can dish the ball and keep CV, Gordon, and Gay happy this team is going to be dangerous. Factor in Marquis Daniels off the bench, this team can run and gun better than anyone. If they do get into the playoffs look out, they have Golden State in 07 written ALL over them.
Dana Jacobson: That does it for Cold Pizza, please log on to ESPN.com and vote in our poll. This weeks question, will the Bobcats make the playoffs? Thanks for tuning in this is Dana Jacobson, for Skipp Bailiff and Stephen A. saying good bye.
Skip: Doing okay, just SHOCKED that Cowboys beat the Giants...HOW COULD THEY!?!?!?
