Was the Rip Hamilton deal a good deal for the Houston Rockets?
This team started off the season hot, but then began to lose games. When the GM of the Rockets observed this, he couldnt help but to point the finger at the Rockets being able to put the ball in the net. The Rockets offense had gotten cold, and a breath of life needed to be injected back into this team. The GM knew that he had to do something to this team, and bring in a veteran leader was what he would do.
In a deal to today the Rockets traded away young pg Jameer Nelson, Marquis Daniels, and two draft picks for veteran Rip Hamilton. The Rockets gave up a bit, but feel that they got a great player in return
"Whenever you can make a deal that includes a player of Rip Hamiltons caliber, you make that deal."-Rockets GM
This deal adds another 80+ rated player to Houstons lineup. This move also brings in some veteran leadership, as this team is very young. It also does not take up too much salary cap space and will allow the Houston Gm to go out and add another quality free agent next year. I mean who wouldnt want to play on an up and coming team with stars Rip, Iggy, and Big Al.
Projected Lineup- The new lineup for the Rockets will keep Kwame at center, Big Al at power forward, and Iggy at small forward. Rip will be inserted as the starting shooting guard, and either Luther Head or Jordan Farmar will be heading up the point guard position. This makes the Rockets a little bit more dangerous, and gives them another threat to score the ball.

Charlotte Observer: How do you feel about this trade for the Bobcats, did you think they didn't get enough for Rip or do you think the over all value is good?

Its for this reason that a deal had to be made. We are sitting at 9-11 right now, in the projected 8th seed in the tough western conference. Dallas is sitting at 12-12 and is playing really well right now. They are a good team, but we would love to be the best team in Texas. We would love to make the playoffs and bring some excitement to Houston. Its why deals like this are made..... when good teams play, there is excitement.
We feel that a core of Rip, Al, and Iggy can make some noise...especially if our role players contribute to their abilities. I hope to see us make a run in the coming months and finish with a playoff berth in hand
