It appears that the Houston Rockets are looking to make some moves before the trade deadline. The GM of the Rockets thinks that the team has gotten complacent and should be performing better than they are right now. This team is struggling to make the playoffs, and would like to work to improve their playoff seed.
The Rockets GM has contacted multiple GMs and has been contacted numerous times about some of his players. Every player on the roster has been mentioned, but the Rockets GM likes to limit the talk to all players except for Billups and Jefferson.
However, he has been quoted as saying :" If there is a deal that comes along that really catches my eye, I am not afraid to pull the trigger. The city of Houston deserves more than they have been getting from this team, and I am doing my best to give them a quality product. This team has shown great improvement from last year, but i am not one to rest on my laurels. I will improve this team, and the city of Houston will be proud again."
Names that have come up in trade talk have included: Bobby Jackson, Rip Hamilton, Josh Childress, and Chris Wilcox. These guys could be on their way out of Houston.
One such deal that has been discussed quite frequently would include the departure of Bobby Jackson and Chris Wilcox. These guys both have valuable expiring contracts, and Chris Wilcox should be able to be resigned fairly cheaply and provide a good post presence. Now, this deal is still in the works, but sources have confirmed that a deal could be made before the trade deadline. Nobody is sure as to what type of deal this would be, but my intuition would tell me that these guys are headed somewhere in the Eastern Conference, as the Rockets do not like to trade with division or conference rivals.
There is also another scenario involving Rip Hamilton and Chris Wilcox. Now this deal is not as close to being completed, but my sources say that talk is still alive.
Now as you can see the Rockets are very active at this point, and it would not suprise me if they made a move to help secure a spot in the playoffs. However, knowing the Rockets GM, he will not make a move that does not make sense for his franchise. He will also not sacrifice this team's future or cap space for a small window of opportunity.
Watch the headlines for a potential trade, and I will keep you updated.
