Free Agency Extravaganza?
Maurice Williams, Grant Hill, James Posey, Jerry Stackhouse, and Mickael Pietrus. Those were the best free agents of last years class, and I'll be the first to tell you that this year's class exceeds last year exponentially. I mean this year's Free Agent class could be one of the best in the History of the NBA. Now it isn't a for sure conclusion that any of these free agents I am going to talk about today even hit the market, but still, if they can't come to a deal with their team, that means they are fair game.
This free agency class is headed by one of the best big men in the NBA. He is a slam-dunk contest champion and what most people believe to be an up and coming superstar. He is the Detroit Pistons starting center Dwight Howard. Now he is just one of the few big names heading this years class. 2 guys to really keep your eye on are the two high flyer's: Josh Smith in Houston and Andre Iguodala who resides in San Antonio.
Interested in a PG? Well this class has 4 of them. All are raw and ready for their talent to explode. Monta Ellis is the biggest name out of the group. A long time ago he was drafted as a 2nd round pick, but this year he wants to show everyone that he could of gone #1. Lets not forget about Devin Harris, Jose Calderon, and Jameer Nelson, who could be testing the free agents waters this off-season as well.
Both Al Jefferson and Emeka Okafor could be headed to different teams if they don't like the price they are getting from their original teams. Al Jefferson has really come into his own and should be commanding some big bucks this year, and former Uconn Huskie Emeka Okafor should get paid well also.
Now, with all the young talent out there, there has got to be some veteran leadership available right? Correct. Antawn Jamison is the best of the older players in this group of free agents. There is also Antonio Mcdyess and Ricky Davis who both could provide some pop off the bench.
Last but not least there are a couple of Shooting Guards and a Small Forward I'd like to talk about. I'll start with the Guards. Two of the best shooters in the league could be on their way out of town. Both Ben Gordon and Kevin Martin present very good skill sets at the 2-spot. They can shoot and penetrate and both could be seeing a big check coming their way when the free agency period begins. Luol Deng has been a proven commodity since he has been in the league and is one of those guys who hasn't reached his full potential yet, but he is not far away from becoming a star and getting the money to go with it.
